Transects and Seashore Study

Activities that can be included:
  • Sand dune transects, including recording profile of the dune, percentage plant cover, plant height, temperature, wind speed, infiltration and pH sampling.
  • Rocky shore transects, line transects on rocks.
  • Random quadrats for counting worm casts.
  • Random quadrats for mark and recapture of snails.
  • Pitfall traps.
Booking Information:
  • Cost of visit - £4 per student (minimum charge £80) per day, accompanying adults free.
  • Maximum capacity is 30 students per visit.
  • Visits begin at 9:30 am and groups usually leave around 2:30pm, depending on return to school/college journey time.
  • Please be aware that when booking a coach/minibus, it needs to stay with the group for the whole day.
  • Lunch can be taken in the Field Centre classroom or on picnic benches outside, weather permitting. Groups will need to take any rubbish from lunch back with them.
  • Toilets, hand washing basins and a fully accessible toilet are available within the Field Centre building.
  • The visit will be led by Field Centre Staff, who all have enhanced DBS checks.
  • Risk assessments will be sent out with booking information.
  • Cancellation fee of £50 for cancellations within 4 weeks of a confirmed booking.
