What can educational groups study?

Teesmouth Field Centre caters for all age groups from Foundation stage right through to Undergraduate and beyond! Our study programmes can be adapted to suit the educational needs of all.

Hands on Habitats - Discover the beach, rocks and sand dune habitats and the plants and animals that live there. Can include work on classification, food chains and adaptations.

River Study - Perfect for introducing the River Tees from source to mouth. Visit the working river, Transporter Bridge, the river mouth and beach.

Save Our Seashore - Explore the habitats of Teesmouth National Nature Reserve. Discover how to care for these habitats and the impact humans have on them. Carry out a short tide line litter survey to learn about plastics in our seas.

Brilliant Birds - Discover the birds that live in the Tees Estuary and how their adaptations help them to survive. Learn how to use binoculars and visit a hide to identify and record what you see.

Seashore Senses - A fun way to discover the treasures of the beach. Includes drama, story telling and a hands on beach experience. A study designed for Foundation Stage children.

Sand Dune Transects - Aimed at Post 16 students but can be adapted to suit younger children. Looking at plant succession and recording biotic and abiotic factors such as wind speed, profile, temperature and water infiltration rate.

Rocks, Soils and Fossils - A  discovery day of field work and experiments introducing rocks and soils. Including a visit to the beach to find and identify different rocks.

Other Studies - We can devise a study to suit your needs. Examples include Teesmouth as a contrasting UK locality, Art, Minibeasts, Mapping Skills, Coasts, Middlesbrough Regeneration and Rebranding and Sea Level Rise studies.
